Goodbye, David Cook

I suddenly don't like David Cook.

Well, his music at least.

It has been whispering to me even before when he announced that he'll have rock album. I'm not really a rock person.

I liked his Analog Heart album but I did cringe at some ear splitting tracks.

I bought his self-titled debut album but have only listened to it once - after buying it.

The craziness, obsession and infatuation as worn off.

I'm sorry David. I'm not a fan anymore, but I'll always support you. hehehe. I loved and will always love your version of Always Be My Baby.

I'm a pop girl at heart :p

P.S This also means that I'm not going to the concert. A bit sad, after announcing to the friendster world that "I'm gonna be be in front row on January 27th, 2009" Right now, I don't even know if the concert's pushing through or not. Oh well, so much for that.

The Book Thief

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Poignant book. It takes you back to the early 1940s during Hitler's reign in Nazi Germany. The author gives you a magnifying glass to look inside what's happening at Munich, at Molching, in Himmel Street and find the humanity amidst pre-judgment brandished over Hitler followers at that time. People were brainwashed by Hitler..but not all of them were.

The book thief is a beautifully raw and sad story of the life of a little girl - her angst, her sorrow, what makes her happy, what motivates her, her friendships and what shaped her to become the woman that she is. (was).

I wished this for our office Kris Kringle and I liked it very much! Reading this over the holidays was a great wake-upper for my long lost book reading soul. It has been awakened and I just bought another book - The Time Traveler's Wife :) Ah, the joy of reading. I feel like I've retrieved a lost part of me by reading again and I didn't have to use an SQL query. hyuk hyuk hyuk.

P.S. The book thief is told from Death's point of view --but not a turn off at all.

Home Sweet Home

It's Christmas! Lots of presents to unwrap, lots of food to eat but the best thing is spending all those moments with the family :)

Ah, i miss my house! HOme sweet Home!

Come January, it's back to being a 'bedspace' again hehehe

Sunday, November 16, 2008

Ah, November!

It's been a hectic month! I had a hard time juggling work, gym, school and church activities. What was i thinking packing all those things together??

Original Schedule
Work M - F, 830 - 530
PT 1:1 @ Gym M W F, 530 - 7PM
MgtAcc Class @ Taft - Th 6pm - 915pm
Opman class - online homework every week, study everyday!!
Church - Wed meetings @ rockwell 730 -10pm

Saturday is go out with Aldrich Day
Sunday is Family day

Even weekends are booked! sheesh!

Modified Schedule
- I've dropped Wednesdays off the gym chart to have a more sane day. It's the sacrifice I have to do even if it means not completing the thirty Php700 a session Personal Training package. I'm projecting completing about 25 sessions by Dec 9 (expiration date)

Sometimes, I just want to go off to the province - no computer, no tv, no cellphone.. maybe my MP3 player and a nice book and just stare at the grass. Nice green grass to soothe my senses and give me back my sanity.

Opman! This online class was a mistake! There are no classroom meet-ups so there's homework to pass EVERY SINGLE WEEK! It beats just attending class and listening! I have to read 90 pages of powerpoints along with handouts and participate in discussions.. oh man! It's really, really challenging and calls for a high level of discipline!

I couldn't cope up fast enough so I missed joining in discussions for about 3 -4 sessions. Finally, I've caught up and have started posting my thoughts and commenting on others' posts. This was only made possible my studying almost everyday....

Now you know why i want to go to the province..

I can't wait for DEC 20!!! The start of my 2-week leave! Lots of assignments, take home finals and a 3-topic mgtacc term paper away from freedom!

So help me God...

MEET THE ALPHA FEMALE

By Margie David Collins
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 00:34:00 08/31/2008

MANILA, Philippines - I’m sorry,” he told New Hampshire voters, “I can’t make her younger, taller, male!”

Bill was campaigning early this year for his wife Hillary, who had just lost Iowa. The United States presidential hopeful was the same Hillary who, campaigning for Bill in 1992, bristled at criticism of her alpha-female profile. She said: “I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies, but I decided to fulfill my profession [law].” And then: “I’m not some Tammy Wynette standing by my man!”

Oh, the delicious irony of it all.

Can you blame her for believing it was her manifest destiny to be the 44th Occupant of the White House? A clever political maven in pursuit of a holy grail, she wasn’t entering pioneering territory—Golda Meir, Indira Ghandi, Margaret Thatcher, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Angela Merkel trod the path before her, smashing the glass ceiling to smithereens.

But while it’s an illustrious place to be, it’s a lonely, sparsely populated land.

If biology no longer dictates destiny, who are these alpha females? Do they exist? Do we even like them?

Empowered

Thanks to our mothers, Germaine Greer, Betty Friedan, Simone de Beauvoir and Gloria Steinem, who inspired timid women slaving away in menial jobs and desperate housewives chained to the kitchen sink, empowered women are today in positions of influence and in high-flying careers that pay the kind of money that was once the preserve of men.

“So, which office do you prefer,” asked the male boss of his female employee. “The one with the sticky floor or the glass ceiling?” An old joke which, if uttered today with malice, could land you in a great heap of trouble.

Girls are outperforming boys academically and entering the workforce in greater numbers than ever before. Women are surging ahead, racing to the top and doing everything men can do, twice as well.

Luckily, this is not difficult, as Charlotte Whitton said. In a defining race, some women park their femininity and nurturing side to clamber over everyone else, leaving others behind. Their sense of self is so bound up with their ambition that they realize, to gain what’s worth having—well-paid job, smart house, fancy vacations—it may be necessary to sacrifice everything else.

Sacrifices

These are the alpha women, at the feet of the bitch-goddess success who, said Aldous Huxley, demands strange sacrifices from those who worship her. They’d been taught they could do anything a man could do, to want everything a man could have—power, money, status. They had become that curious thing—the men we wanted to marry ourselves.

The alpha female has to be so clever, polished and capable from the crack of dawn to the small hours, ticking all her roles with superior efficiency—workaholic manager; supermom baking brownies; sexy wife with amorous intentions.
In her downtime, she goes to art films, reads The Economist, plays the market, does her Pilates, plans parties with military precision.

“Alpha female, like alpha male, depends on a sense of innate superiority she’s probably not aware of. While she would be effortlessly capable, she would need a reduced capacity for empathy, because otherwise, it would derail her. If she has children, they only come out between 7 and 8 p.m., washed, dressed and brought up by someone else,” said the author Sarah Dunant.

Not for her gamma man; if she has a husband, he would have to be carved from the same timber, or he would feel indubitably emasculated in no time. Testosterone kicks in, starts to resent her, loses his desire, walks out the door.

She would need a small army of people trailing after her; poor poppet, she would be so tired she might just, well, give up. Not like Jerry Hall, prepared to improvise: “Mom said that to be a great wife, you must be a maid in the living room, a cook in the kitchen, a whore in the bedroom. I told her I’ll hire the first 2 and I’ll take care of the third.”

Unachievable

A recent poll by New Woman magazine found that superwomen are seen as unattractive, unachievable; seven out of 10 women say they want to take it easier; one in four would give up work to raise a family. Seventy-seven percent said women were expected to fulfill too many roles; 67 percent said the man should be the main provider for his family.

“There’s a fundamental shift in young women’s attitudes. They’ve seen their mothers trying and failing to have it all; they’ve decided they don’t want it all. They don’t want to work crazy hours while their children are in nurseries and their relationships disintegrate. They’re increasingly putting their personal happiness before a big salary or a high-powered career,” said editor Margi Conklin.

We might not like her, but we don’t object to a woman being a great scientist or a captain of industry if, at the same time, she’s also a good wife, friend and mother. Except this alpha juggler is now an endangered species. She can have it all, but as Tina Brown said, just not all at the same time.

Recent studies show that just as high-achieving women are about to hit the fabled ceiling, they turn back. With babies, they rediscover their softer side, don’t want to return to work, turn down a promotion so they can have flexibility or a redeeming purpose in their lives.

Susan Pinker, author of The Sexual Paradox, said: “The majority of women have more balanced goals. Not that long ago, being at the top of the managerial chain was the highest rung on the ladder for them. Now, one generation after second-wave feminism, they’re moving beyond that view; they want rewarding family and work lives.”

So, women are no longer killing themselves in a race to the top because, suddenly afflicted with cold feet, the landscape littered with stupefying emptiness, feral kids, broken families, they no longer want to be there. Something has to give, compromises made. They’re prepared to enjoy the spoils of war, but not to fight so damn hard for them anymore.

Alpha woman is quite possibly the maverick result of our wishful thinking. Too good to be true, too tired to last and nursing Vatican-sized guilt, she has measured what she stood to gain by what she had to lose, and found it all wanting.

No matter how high a price she paid, she’s alone in that awful way that no man—alpha or not—ever has to be.

[Grace - I actually think that I have alpha female tendencies coz I like to multitask, I like to excel and I like to be the best in everything I do (at least in my category). But lately... I've gotten to know 'contentment' and it got me worried. I was never contented. I 'm not sure if feeling contentment in terms of work status is good or not since logically speaking, there's still room to go up (no glass ceiling). I have to ponder this through and get a grip on what my priorities are in life and where i am headed in my life. ]

Mood Swing Alert

Dear Blog,

I'm supposed to be studying right now pero naeewan ako.. again that indescribable feeling which could only be attributed to mood swings.

:(

I'm having a yogurt right now, maybe it'll help??

Ahhh.. i hate these feelings! i need to study!! it's midterms tomorrow!!!

I see some patterns in my life that could define who i am

> tends to get herself a hectic schedule (all the time)
> likes to eat during mood swings
> eternally conscious about her weight
> very prone to impulsive spending
> gets excited over nerdy stuff

well that appeased me a bit.. interesting.. do i calm down through retrospection?

Blog Blog BLog.

I've been busy the past few weeks catching up on work i should've finished a long time ago... there was a lot of idle time a while back and that turned my brain to mush. Now things are gearing up and hectic once again so my blood's rushing and i feel alive! hahahah

What Would You Do?

What do you do when your boyfriend's project sucks but yours is still tolerable?

What do you do if you're starting to get tired of feeling muscle pain from working out at the gym because some people do not appreciate all the effort, time and money you put into working out? (just uber sensitive today)

What do you do if you feel that there needs to be 3 days in a weekend?

What do you do if you feel that your life is a mess, much like the state of your room?

Why do i never learn?

I spent around 3 years paying for splurges I incurred from 5 credit cards (HSBC, Metrobank, Citibank, Unionbank, Bankard) .. the most rash one was a trip to Boracay while the others where a lot of little things that i've forgotten.. mostly coffee and basically buying stuff that I could not pay for at once. I think my pc is part of the list.

And after finally paying them all off around 5 months ago, I've brought the ghost of debt back to life by incurring 80k of debt one just one credit card. How sad is that?? I did major splurging at the gym..and also got myself into an investment that i was supposedly ready for but i used the money on the gym stuff instead (membership, personal trainor, nutritionist, massages).

Knock knock knock.. earth to myself! Why do i never learn.

Based on my calculations.. I'll be able to clear my card on March 2009. Great, just great!

I should put some kind of validation before handing over my card to the cashier
1) Are you sure you want to buy that?
Yes-->
2) Based on the money in your ATM, you cannot afford to pay that
Proceed with purchase -->
3) Warning: Do not continue with the purchase
Proceed with purchase -->
4) Error: cannot continue with the purchase. Not enough money.

hehehe.. siguro naman natauhan na ako by then!

Crash and Burn

Crash and Burn. Crash and Burn.

Let's hope this does not happen.

I actually noticed the pun on behalf of my boyfriend

CrashING - this is a 'technique' in project management where number of days of completion is shortened by adding more resources to a task

Burn OUT - this is the state of employees who are overworked and underpaid

Although Crash and Burn does not apply for me at work.. but more on my finances!

Maybe i should burn my credit card hehehe. What did i buy? Too many to mention (parang sagot sa who are your friends? sa slumbook)

I Have Heartburn

I'm just usually burpy and have a hard time digesting my food coz i eat too fast and chewing my food well bores me.. but I haven't experiened the acid reflux sensation until two days ago :( I had it yesterday and this morning and I could feel my esophagus being burnt as the acid goes up to my throat!

Sigh.. i need to chew my food well this time. My body's failing me already.. must be part of getting old or not having good eating habits. And i also recall getting into the Fit & Right craze which had me drinking 1-2 bottles per day of pineapple or four seasons. The article i read says that citrus fruits and juices could be a trigger so I'm staying away from that for now.

Despite the name, heartburn has nothing to do with the heart. It's a digestive problem that occurs when stomach acid comes into contact with the lining of the esophagus, causing irritation. Most people suffer from heartburn occasionally, usually after a meal. How do you know when your condition is considered chronic?

If you have heartburn once a month, it's considered mild. If you have heartburn once a week, it's moderate. It's when your heartburn occurs daily that it's considered to be severe.

About 20% of all adults will have heartburn at least once a month. They can manage these uncomfortable episodes with a change in diet, over-the-counter antacids and weight lose. Even those who suffer from moderate heartburn can often find relief with these remedies. But for five to fifteen percent of adults, their heartburn is severe. For them, the above-mentioned remedies give only partial or temporary relief.

What Causes Heartburn?

Heartburn is caused when stomach acid refluxes--backs up--into the esophagus. This can occur for a number of reasons:

  • When the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the valve that keeps stomach acid in the stomach, is weakened or relaxed and doesn't do its job properly. This is the most common symptom of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).

  • Certain foods, such as chocolate, fried and fatty foods, peppermint, coffee, alcohol, sugars, can weaken or relax the LES.

  • Eating large meals or shortly before bedtime.

  • A hiatal hernia.

  • Pressure on the stomach, including frequent bending over, tight clothes, lifting, obesity.

  • Certain medications.

  • Smoking.

  • Stress can increase acid production and slow down the emptying of the stomach.

Is Heartburn Serious?

People who suffer from mild heartburn may consider it more of a nuisance than a condition that can cause any serious complications. But for those who suffer from chronic heartburn, episodes occurring from several times a week to several times a day, if it's left untreated can lead to severe complications.

For people who suffer from Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), heartburn can be chronic, and severe. This can cause scarring of the esophagus, which narrows the esophagus and makes it difficult to swallow. It can also lead to Barrett's esophagus, a condition where cells similar to those of the stomach lining develop in the lower esophagus. This severe damage to the esophagus increases your risk of developing cancer of the esophagus.

Managing Your Heartburn

You can find relief from your heartburn with a few self-care remedies. This involves making a few lifestyle and diet changes.

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Eat frequent smaller meals instead of three larger ones.
This will help prevent excessive production of stomach acid.

  • Eat slowly.
One way to help you slow down while eating is to put your fork or spoon down between bites.

  • Don't go to bed with a full stomach.
Stay up at least three hours after eating your last meal or large snack before going to bed. This gives acid levels a chance to decrease before your body is in a position where heartburn is more likely to occur.

  • Raise the head of your bed several inches.
With your head elevated, it will help prevent reflux during the night.

  • Avoid your heartburn triggers.
Examples of foods and beverages that can trigger heartburn are coffee (including decaf), alcohol, fatty foods, caffeine-containing beverages and foods, onions, peppermint, chocolate, citrus fruits or juices, tomatoes.

  • Stop smoking.
Nicotine can weaken the lower esophageal sphincter, the muscle that controls the opening between the esophagus and stomach and prevents the acid-containing contents of the stomach from entering the esophagus.

  • Wear looser-fitting clothes.
Tight clothing squeezes the midsection and tends to push stomach contents upward.

  • Lose weight.
If you are overweight, losing weight can help relieve your symptoms.

  • Chew gum.
Chewing gum can provide short-term heartburn relief by stimulating the production of saliva, which dilutes and flushes out stomach acid.

  • Drink warm liquids.
Drinking a glass of lukewarm water or herbal tea after a meal can dilute and flush out stomach acid.

Mood: Sad, Numb

I'm procrastinating again..

..haven't done accounting and payday was 4 days ago
..haven't transferred tuition funds to BDO for months already (i wonder how many charges i've accumulated from being below 5k)
..haven't withdrawn money for church contribution
..haven't gone to bed, it's 12:48 am and i have an 8am choir practice tom
..

I'm sad because Aldrich is having such a hard time at work...his project sucks! management in his project sucks! He's working this weekend and will go on night shift again for two weeks starting tuesday sigh.

His world is turned upside down and mine is rattled as well. How am i going to the office and back home again?? Sigh. Commute. Hundreds more people are taking the MRT now due to the soaring gas prices and bus fairs.

How sad.

I'm rethinking learning how to drive and buying a car again. But I only think about it in moments like these. When I can hitch a ride with Aldrich again, the thought goes back to the shelves.

Something's wrong. i know, i just don't want to face up to it.

I'm OLD!!!

I'm affected :(

I just came home from church choir practice and the voice coach asked me if i was married!!!

Waaaah!! I know i'm in the marrying age already (born 1982) however, i never thought someone would ask me that!

It meant that I looked like I am at the age when people are already married! Translation: i LOOK OLD!!

OH MAN!!

Is it the late night internet surfing until 2am?

Is it the sedentary lifestyle - sitting in front of the computer at the office for more than 8 hours, lots of eating and no exercise???

I've got to change my habits!! *Sigh* I have lazy bones! but i don't want to look old :(

Mamma Mia!

Fun movie to watch :)

Ive been cheated by you since I dont know when
So I made up my mind, it must come to an end
Look at me now, will I ever learn?
I dont know how but I suddenly lose control
Theres a fire within my soul
Just one look and I can hear a bell ring
One more look and I forget everything, o-o-o-oh

Mamma mia, here I go again
My my, how can I resist you?
Mamma mia, does it show again?
My my, just how much Ive missed you
Yes, Ive been brokenhearted
Blue since the day we parted
Why, why did I ever let you go?
Mamma mia, now I really know,
My my, I could never let you go.

Ive been angry and sad about the things that you do
I cant count all the times that Ive told you were through
And when you go, when you slam the door
I think you know that you wont be away too long
You know that Im not that strong.

Mamma mia, even if I say
Bye bye, leave me now or never
Mamma mia, its a game we play
Bye bye doesnt mean forever

Mamma mia, here I go again
My my, how can I resist you?
Mamma mia, does it show again?
My my, just how much Ive missed you
Yes, Ive been brokenhearted
Blue since the day we parted
Why, why did I ever let you go
Mamma mia, now I really know
My my, I could never let you go

Knowing Myself Through Others

Sometimes, in my search to understand myself better, i look at my family and try to find how similar i am to them.

I somewhat look like my first and second brother but not much like my third. Having bumped into my first bro at Powerbooks on a weekday lunch and him telling me about the nice vampire novels that [info]dreamspinner_ is already reading tells me that we both like books. He's my most studious brother after all. He also has leadership / management / deepack chopra / south beach diet books on his shelves. Cool. I got his pocket book of quotations when he moved out of our old house. Oh, he's also the one one who took MBA at DLSU, but unlike him, i haven't landed the dean's list in grad school.. and not even in college where he was given the Jose Rizal award in DLSU.. his course was Mgt major in Financial Institutions! Not for me :p

My second brother, based on my observation and other people's, has a lot of similarity with my dad. They like taking risks, they pamper the females in their lives a lot and they're generous when there's something to give hehe. I'm really lucky coz this is my brother who's still okay with bringing me to makati and back home even if his office is only in ortigas (10 -15 mins away from our house). :) He also gives me nice bday presents and always asks me my top 3 choices for my bday :) He bought his daughter a little puppy :) Oh and i think he's the one who kept speaking to me in English when i was little.. he also took Communications as one of his majors when he was in college :) Vet med was also one of them! :) I like animals (doggggs) hehehe

My third brother, on the other hand, is the practical, thrifty, handyman, and comedian in the family. I played with him a lot when I was little.. Family Computer, S-NES.. he taught me how to play Top Gear 2! He also likes to sing with matching funny moves - I do the moves in my room only..alone! He's also computer savvy.. he taught me how to use the computer back in grade school - hello Wordstar and Windows 3.1! He likes doing puzzles too :)

Wala lang... for me, it's nice to know these things coz i look up to my brothers. They've been there, done that and I'm just still on my way. I hope I can get to where they are eventually!

Back to Back Movies: Made of Honor & Wanted

Made of Honor

Typical chick flick with a very real lesson that most women overlook: the perfect guy may not be perfect for you.

A somewhat unrealistic ending: a serial womanizer will instantly change his ways upon learning that he truly loves someone..and girl falls for it.

Well the movie ends at the honeymoon night so whatever happens to them afterwards is not our concern. There's always divorce! (groom's father got his 6th one - sometimes it runs in the blood)

Okay bleak review! Maybe i shouldn't watch chick flicks! On a positive note, there were really funny in-your-face type of scenes. More on laughing at the character type of funny. And i applaud the casting crew for finding younger actors that really look like dempsey and the girl's younger college versions.

Wanted (Some days in the life of Wesley Gibson)

Very Twisted Beliefs: A fraternity of assasins who kill based on a supposed binary 'code' that a loom of cloth produces. Very twisted indeed. I find it very hard to swallow but apparently, main character is so lost in his life that he still chooses to follow the path after receiving a dramatic reasoning from angelina jolie. Well, who can resist her?

The movie tries to be cool with its unexpected twists and turn but it's only an 'almost' and not quite there yet.

Despite this, it was a real KICK-ASS movie that would leave your heart pumping and blood rushing! Makes you want to be hit on face for no reason just to feel the adrenaline rush! Maybe with that, you can also curve a bullet, make a car somersault, or the best part - tell off your annoying boss and slam an ergonomic keyboard on the face of your cheating best friend.

And movie ends with a rhetoric question, "what have YOU done lately?"

Cookie Custard

If you ask me, I'll have a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of a warm cookie! :p yumm!

Frozen Custard Named After David Cook
10-Jun-2008
Written by: Angela P. Cobb

“Idol” winner immortalized with tasty delight.

Custard’s Last Stand, a custard store in Blue Springs, Missouri, is honoring native son and American Idol winner David Cook, with a frozen custard in his name, Fox News reports.

The snack – named The David Cook Concrete – features a mixture of swiss chocolate frozen custard, Oreo cookies, Reese’s Cups, and peanut butter syrup. The frozen delight will be featured as June’s flavor of the month at Custard’s Last Stand, which has locations all throughout Missouri.

Depending on size, the cost of “Cook’s Concrete” ranges from $3.65 to $5.27.

The wife of the owner of Custard’s Last Stand is a huge David Cook fan, as are several of the store’s employees. Throughout the most recent season of American Idol, the store encouraged its patrons to vote for Cook.

Cognitive Dissonance

Something is amiss.. I do not feel right...

Should i stop obsessing over David Cook???

But i like it! hehehe it excites me!

but i do not feel right.. you know like 'cognitive dissonance'

but is this dissonance only brought about by the pre-programmed guilt tripping from my past??

Or is it genuine?

What bad effect has this obsession being doing to me??

I've been able to do my homework way ahead of time, so no problem with school even though I download from You Tube and do homework at the same time

Well, sleep's been a little deprived but I'm able to catch up on the weekends. My forecast is I've finished all the You Tube videos there is for one week and the next would be to find someone who has AI season 7 episodes. I'm lazy and impatient to download all the torrents of 42 episodes! That will take a humongous amount of time and resources!

I want to watch the entire season to be fair you know, and also listen to the other singers. I actually listened to Archie's Imagine (his best according to reviews) and he sings very well although his melody reminded me of a girl singer.

So to each his own. I prefer the 25 year old rocker better :P

So is my relationship being affected?? I don't know. Have I stopped doing somethings that I used to do before?? I don't think so...

If there was no DC right now, what would i be doing with my free time?

Sleep? pester Aldrich coz im bored and don't want to super do all my assignments at once..

So i lessened on the pestering and sleep. Maybe I'll just ask him if I stopped doing some things because of DC (in a bad way).

I was in david-cook.org a while ago and read about this girl who almost broke up with her bf because of David Cook. Now, i think that would be taking it too far. First of all, DC doesn't even know us! We are his fans, collectively, so I dont' think it's worth ruining our personal individual lives for someone who does not know us on a personal level. That would be stupid.

When will I get over my David Cook obsession?

Forecast: not within the next few weeks!

Here's the progression

  1. heard Always Be My Baby over the radio and couldn't get the song out of my head
  2. had my friend bluetooth the mp3 of the song to me
  3. googled up the guy with the handsome voice who sang the song and got hooked!
  4. watched and downloaded David Cook's AI performances from youtube
  5. created a MySpace account just to add him as a friend
  6. downloaded Analog Heart Album as well as other performances via torrents
  7. watched behind the scenes and funny moments videos in you tube!

The last one just made me sink deeper into DCO since he's such a sweet, nice and respectful guy (like when the crowd was booing Randy for his comment, he was shown mouthing 'it's okay' 'it's okay' and trying to appease the crowd; Roberta Flack song) awwwwww

and he's interested in words (vocabulary, crossword puzzles) and likes to tell corny jokes! (ahem, ahem)

he's funny, he's down-to-earth, he's cool, he's hot, he's cute

but totally out of reach!!! (physically at least)

*sigh* ^_^ hehehe

*Sigh* ^_^

Freakin'!

I was never really an American Idol fanatic but when i heard Always Be My Baby on the radio sang by a guy with an oh-so-handsome voice...(ang gwapo ng boses nya!!) i just had to swoon*** damn!

He has gay potential on some pics but when you hear him sing...ahhhh, there's just no doubt that he's a rockin' MAN. hehehehe

And he's 25! Dec 1982..sheesh I'm older than him. I was about to create a MySpace account so I can add him (haha!) but the site is under maintenance.

I like the American Idol Finals version better

Going on 3 years

Yey! To celebrate our non-weekend anniversary, I've told my boyfriend that we should have a competition in giving each other the cheapest (in monetary value) yet the most memorable gift ever!

Something different this year :)

Maybe I'll make him a poem?? hehehe

Which side of me is this?

Today is a crazy day!

I didn't take my usual Sunday after lunch 3-4 hour nap and instead, did my Mgt Science homework computing for present value and inflation to help some made-up people decide which investment to take on a make-believe baby food company.

After that, i couldn't stand the humidity in the house so I went out and did a couple of crossword puzzles while sitting out in our garden set and listening to our neighbors' maids chat about the kitty paw scratches in the cars that they're cleaning.

I also waited for Aldrich to arrive so I can borrow his DVD collection and I lent him my Learn Java in 21 days books. (yes, I have java books! but've never gotten around to using them...)

I got super sleepy by that time, around 630 so I went up to my room, hugged my panda bear and almost fell asleep...

But my mom called that it's time for dinner.. and after dinner it was still hot and i felt like having ice cream coz my crossword puzzle had 3 dessert answers: Ice Cream Sundate, Vanilla Ice Cream and Apple Pie A la Mode! All were ACROSS.

So after scrounging for some money, Aldrich picked me up and we went to a nearby house selling FIC. We bought pints of cookies and cream (for aldrich), caffe latte (sugar free for my parents) and rocky road ice cream (for me!..rasperry, mango and vanilla were out of stock!!!)

We had to finish the pints because there's no more room in the freezers of the 2 refs we had and we are expecting a power 'disruption' tomorrow according to Meralco.

I just finished watching the Nanny Diaries with Scarlett Johansson. The DeBeDe was choppy at the end so it took longer than usual to finish.

Now, I'm typing away at my blog and hoping that my groupmates would send over their parts for our Mgt Sci case by 12nn tomorrow.

At least at the rate I'm going, I don't think I'll be dropping from any of my subjects this term!

Super bibo and super sipag nerd mode ON!

Don't Pause to Breathe When You Read This..That's How I Would've Said It!!!

I am restless with a purpose. i feel this way when i have a challenge that's unfinished. Like a testing deliverable that i have to sign off and the creator knows more about the module than I know because I'm not really from that team but they weirdly made me team lead there what the hell?? and since my real team's TL is on night shift, im backup team lead in the morning and even if everyone else has lots of idle time i feel that my hands are full from managing 2 teams.. altho relatively, my schedule is still very normal coz it's still within eight hours, consolation! ahh! i need to study the functionality of my new team! crazy crazy

Talking to my Blog

Aldrich and I will be going to Tagaytay tomorrow for our 'summer' outing. We were supposed to go to Wonder Island but changed our minds because of the weather. It's scary to ride a boat to an island during strong winds and high waves...so off to Sonya's we go! We'll also have merienda at Bag of Beans. Aldrich can't wait to get his hands (or mouth) on the apple pie again. It's his absolute favorite!

Right now, I'm still researching on another place to go to in between Sonya's and Bag of Beans. I'm thinking of the Flower Farm, also in Tagaytay. I considered People's Park in the Sky first but it might be dirty and there were some negative comments in Virtual Tourist.

I just need to get our itinerary in place then I have still some other things to think about...
1) I've decided to take Bikram Yoga Classes - Thought Level 9. This has a dependency to # 2 though
2) Actualization of Finances - I did get my last pay but I dont' want to splurge coz I already paid my dad 20k out of the 48k.
3) I'm planning to invest around 10-15 k from my remaining 25k. My sister-in-law, Gwen, suggested that I invest in one of Philam's plans; she recommended this and has also put her own money and kids; money in the plan. I still have to contact her sister Grace so she can tell me how it works.

Recently, I feel I've become more family oriented and less rebellious. (Slowly saying goodbye to teenage rebellious phase! 6 years late!) I have Aldrich to thank in part since he's a super family oriented guy - this he made clear - ala expectations setting - when we were still starting out.

I've also found it easier to participate in Church activities coz I see my parents, especially my Dad getting involved in them, too. I never imagined this would happen, but as we know, nothing is impossible with God!

I've attended a couple of Wednesday career group meetings and our newly transferred pastor, Bro. Kervin is really a great speaker and motivator. Attending the meetings openend my eyes to the wrong notions I had about faith and Christianity (sheesh, after all these years!), and also made me ponder about the status of my relationship with God.

One of the most important eye-openers to me is that the basis of our faith, of our being a Christian should be Jesus Christ. No one else, nothing else. Our faith in God should not be based on feelings alone. For example, I often say "I'm not in the mood, I don't want to go to Church anymore "or "I'm sleepy, so maybe I'll pray later or read the Bible next time". It's not something that we do when we're happy and comfortable and have extra time. It should be part of our life. It's not a religion, it's a way of life.

I've never really thought of it that way and the more I attend the meetings and mull over things, the easier it is to follow the 'pathway of life' (this is the title of the book we're reading). Of course, it will take time but what's important is the willingness to follow it and for the rest, God's grace will suffice.

It's such a pity that I have classes on Wednesdays and Thursday this term! I've rechecked the schedule but there's no other good date option. I'll miss our meetings and practices as well :( .

I Have a Life!

I have a life!

I realized I have a life after attending my friend Cathy's baby shower! I haven't seen or spoke with this friend for like 3++ years. We worked together in the airport during the modeling days!

I am also able to meet up for coffee with my high school friends who work around Makati since I now get out of the office at 'normal people' time. Wow! I didn't realize that going home early from the office and not rendering frequent overtime and not equating your life with work would have an effect of such a great magnitude to my life!

Wow, I can now say that I have a life!

The best thing right now is not only having a life but also getting paid higher for the same things that you do before.

Way cool!

All's Well That Ends Well

All's well now... Aldrich and I are both on normal shift. He's experiencing the 'adjustment week' syndrome I had during my first 2 billable weeks... the super-charged but tired feeling and temporarily shifting into a morning person.. but that too will pass! I know so, hahahah!

I was just looking at my current company's outing photos and it looks so much fun! But just coming from a different company, we couldn't help but compare company organized outings.

Old Company
- GP2W Organized
- A sponsor project is chosen to help in logistics, food, games, etc.
- basically, it's very organized!

New Company
- HR Organized
- everyone is to just enjoy and have fun!
- there are games and activities but not everyone was compelled to join

The not-so-good things we encountered were waiting to check in to our rooms.. like a 2 hour wait? and waiting to check out of our rooms..like an hour wait on the bus..and it was 1pm but we still hadn't had lunch and when we did a stopover, there was a sudden change of venue coz some person from another bus called to say that paseo de sta rosa had more options.. oh yeah but they were in a hurry and told us just to take out our food. Huwat? how can you say that to hungry and grumpy people? Our heads were shaking, tsk tsk.

What we enjoyed though was the free time and not having to account for where you are. We were even able to get out of the resort and ride a tricycle to the town market to buy some pasalubong fruits, kakanin and pies. That was nice :)

Can Your Relationship Survive the Shift?

I'm on day shift again after my 1 week night shift stint.. but Aldrich is still on night shift - but they were promised that it would only be until this week.

Why can't I just be a logical person and stop whining? I just sooo hate it when he's not around. Sigh. One week na lang.. bakit hindi ko pa makayanan? Am I that weak??

Apparently, yes. I'm trying not to be....trying....

"There are a few who can manage long-distance relationships successfully, but for couples that work in the same office but never meet, the tale is very different. They find it harder to meet and even more stressful to stay awake longer than required, upsetting the balance the body constantly strives to maintain." - Craig D'Mello

"Be sensitive to what your partner is going through when he works the night shift. This will make life so much easier on both of you" - Christie Silvers

Closing Time..Finally!

I never really believed that there was such a thing as 'closure' from really confronting your problems..

I was more of an escapist kind of person who believed that memory loss or time would make everything fine

But i've experienced it myself and now i'm a believer!

Night Creature for a Week

I volunteered to be on night shift for the whole of last week and it was an enlightening experience-

I learned that I'm quite a nocturnal person. My shift mate would fall asleep but i was always awake and alert. Of course there are bouts of sleepiness, but nothing like thesis-times' head-dropping-to-the-keyboard kind of thing.

I guess it also helped that whenever i felt any signs of a major sleepiness attack, I'd have my mini-Nescafe mixed pack in hand: Nescafe Gold, Nesacafe Decaf, and Nescafe Protect. To complete that is Nesvita Non-fat powdered milk and my packets of Splenda Sugar substitute (This is not an Ad) hahaha!

And all in all, night shift isn't that bad (at least for me) especially since our work is not tedious. We're just running batch jobs and validating output files which is simple and mechanical. Not much brain cells are needed unlike when creating Test Case requirements, you'd have to map lots of documents and spreadsheets in your head.

Starting Monday, I'll be back on normal creature shift already and will be looking after my teammates during the day. By some twist of fate, I got moved up to Backup Team Lead and I think it's a really great opportunity :) It's like going back to where I was before in Accenture and in a matter of 2 months!

I'm optimistic about things and determined to tackle and challenges that lie ahead.

Hurting...

It hurts

Like a knife

Cutting through your heart

You don't know

How to stop the pain

Should you escape

Won't it follow you?

it's not magic but chaos

On the Flip Side

On the flip side, my 'pampered' upbringing and the challenge that i face right now has made me come to terms on what I want to be in the next 5 years or so: I will be RICH!

That's Thought level 10! Feelings, Action and Results will follow with the same level of passion.

There's no sense worrying about cooking your own meal when you can afford to hire someone hehehe.

Change Change Change

A deep feeling such as this definitely deserves a post in my 'real' and one and only blog...

There have been so many changes and events in my life lately...so many realizations and eye-opening experiences regarding life...

I remember back in grade school my friends and I were chatting in the corridor while waiting for the teacher to inspect our uniform...one of my friends said that her parents spank her using a bamboo stick, another one joined the conversation and said that her parents used a belt; I, on the other hand said that I was never spanked by my parents.

At that time, I thought I was lucky that I was not spanked by my parents; but now, I realized that I was not as fortunate as my classmates were.

A child who was never disciplined by his parents is going to have a very hard time in the real world...and that's exactly how I'm doing -- having a hard time.

I've been pampered my entire life, this is of course under my parents assumption that they will be able to continue to provide all the luxuries I was used to when I was a kid until before I leave their house. As you've already guessed, that assumption was wrong. Businesses go bankrupt and money disappears.

It was a very very slow process of learning for me... the very first thing I remember giving up was airconditioning. And I did this not by myself but through the influence of a friend.

Next things were about transportation.

First there was no more driver.. then no more car.. then my bro drove me...i eventually learned to ride a jeep but only the ayala loop jeep...next came the MRT but from Shang to Ayala only and not always...then jeep from Kartek to Sea Oil to ride with Arvin...

Then more recently, I've finally mustered up whatever inside me to commute going home: Walk from Philam Life Tower to the MRT Station @ SM. I even bought a stored value card to signify that I'll be doing this on a daily basis. Squeeze myself into the train to get to Santolan/Annapolis Station, then squeeze myself out. Walk towards Crame and to 1st avenue where the San Juan bound jeeps are. Aldrich meets me somewhere along Crame and we ride home together.

It may seem easy for 'normal' people but it is by far the biggest feat that I've accomplished.

Just a few hours ago, Aldrich and I cooked pancakes and he cooked some more of his breakfast food to eat. I washed some dishes and set the table. We sat down and started eating the pancakes. Then it suddenly dawned on me...Is this how life would be once I'm out of my parents house?

I had to cook so I'd have something to eat! And my pancakes didn't even meet up to my standards. I wanted to cry. Why is life so hard? Why is it so hard for me?

I felt that I was grossly unprepared for the 'real world' whereas other people have been immersed in it ever since. I was living in a bubble and now the bubble has disappeared completely.

I'm in the middle of the Rich Dad, Poor Dad book by Robert Kiyosaki and also attended a Cash Flow 101 workshop. From these I learned that schools do not give us any financial knowledge in order to make money work for us and not the other way around.

Sigh. So many things that I have to catch up on! Well, as they say, better late than never!

Tick-Tock says the Clock

Aldrich is on night shift this week and I miss him...

I've been reading other people's blogs and i feel so logical..im so not used to myself

people are doing all these fun and adventurous things and what have i done?

> moved companies for better pay
> blogged about management accounting
> checked out entrepreneurship courses
> thought about opening a short term time deposit
> plan to enroll in driving lessons because of need

what is happening to me??

all the other 'fun' things that i did today are related to food..but they're not guilt-free

> had Coffee Bun + Brewed Coffee from Delifrance (can i just say again that DF's brewed coffee si really good.. caramelly sweet and perfect without any cream or sugar)
> had donuts from Marj

there. i played badminton yesterday too.

maybe I'm just growing up or really trying to set my life in order - control my spending, planning for the future.

Ii hear the clock ticking...I'll be 26 in September!!! eek!

Do i have money to buy a car?
Do i have money to buy a house?
Do i have money for settling down?

Sigh. I'm pressured!

Time for Myself

I have decided to withdraw from Management Accounting class this term and give myself a well-deserved break :)

I think i deserve one after completing my Post-Graduate Diploma in Management..

At first, I didn't want to quit but I realized that it's not worth continuing something if my heart isn't into it and most especially if I'm not really getting any of the topics into my head

Management Accounting is actually a very nice and practical class that i could really apply to my business someday... so getting by the class for the sake of passing is something that i wouldn't want to do..it's a core course after all..

Let's just say i'm dropping coz i want to start it right :)

Happy Vacation to me (hoping that dropping will be a piece of cake)

TO: GSB Students – Taft, Ortigas, Makati, and Canlubang Campuses

FR: Ms. Marissa C. Marasigan
DLSPS Registrar

RE: Deadline for Course Withdrawal and Completion of Course Requirements for the 3rd Trimester, SY 2007-08

Please note that the last day for course withdrawal is Saturday, March 8, 2008. Please make sure that your course withdrawal form, signed by either the professor or the Vice-Dean, is with the GSB Student Secretary of your campus by 3 p.m. of that day.

Students with “Incomplete” (INC) grades have until the end of the 10th week, March 15, 2008, Saturday, to submit or take their completion requirements. Otherwise, they will receive a grade of 1.5 for the subject, and will have to retake the subject.

Thank you.
***************************************************************
Oh my gosh! I'm thinking of withdrawing from Management Accounting..

It's my only subject this term and I'm still not doing well... that's quite depressing..

I've had declining study habits and i can't seem to concentrate as much as before into studying

and it's accounting! how sad!

sigh..should i drop the subject and take a break?

to think that this is my first subject in MBA! thus giving me doubts if i'm really up for MBA...

we have midterms on Monday and i'm not really in the mood to study although i know that i have to...

maybe i shouldn't have taken any subjects yet coz im still adjusting to my new work-- not that i can't go home early ( i actually get out earlier) but basically the sense of adjusting to new things

new office mates, new application, new processes.. even though it's exciting, it's also taxing for someone who's so used to how things were before (read: 3.7 years)

My mind is fine, but it's my body that's complaining. and if my body complains, it influences the mind as well...

what a cycle!

Keeping a Blog

Is a blog worth keeping if you can't write on it as easily as you want?

I have 3 bloggable accounts minus Friendster and MSN Spaces
1) Multiply
2) Blogspot
3) Live journal

Blogspot is my very first blog and the oldest archive is 2002. I also took a lot of pains to design this blog which i eventually put out when the new streamlined blogger designs came out. The problem is, i take this blog too seriously. I can't bring myself to just post random, nonsense kinds of topics in this blog coz i love it too much. Also, i prefer to be anonymous in this blog..as it has always been before. Sentimental value - this is the main reason why i can't give up this blog

Multiply - I mostly post random office (Accenture) related thoughts here. Pictures are centerstage here more than the blog.

Livejournal - my newest blog which I created so I can see Aisa's 'friends only' posts, haha, what a purpose! But because I am not as attached to it, the mood of the blog is more relaxed that I'm able to post just about anything on it...

I feel that my blogspot site has become boring :(

Shucks..i don't know what to do...

Songs Influence My Mood

I created a site for my boyfriend where all his farewell messages and pics and videos are stored http://parakayaldrich.multiply.com in lieu of the usual scrapbook that would be passed around to people and also in lieu of a video compilation of pictures in the project...

I placed background music: Superman by 5 for fighting..

songs tend to influence my mood..

In my case, saying goodbye to 3 years worth of memories..

it's kinda sad when you think about it..

but i'm more of a "new things" kind of person and new things always excite me..

i guess that's why i lost a lot of memories before and it explains my current inclination to history and store all chat message histories and mail archives...

i think i lost a lot on my own past..mistakes I've done in my childhood just because i like new things...

i try to make up for those times but i know deep inside that they're already done and the guilt will haunt me forever...

of the times that i didn't ..

the times that i did..

and why..

Enjoying the 8 to 5

This should be noted down in history! It's my first time to go home between 5:30 -6pm for one week straight in almost 4 years! Imagine that!

I certainly enjoyed my first week, since I'm still on training mode and not yet doing actual client work..just practicing until Feb 18 comes along..

Our TL is still at the client site and he'll be back on tuesday...half of me wants for the 8 -5 to stay that way forever but half of me also does not want to expect too much. This is the IT industry, after all.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my happiness. This week, I slept quite earlier than normal, coz it seems that I'm tired from really thinking or studying haha! ("really", being the operative word here). I felt really good when I woke up on saturday morning :) I felt like i could do so much..plan my life out..take on new challenges..

What a great first week!

I've Left Accenture...

After 3 years, 7 months and 4 days....I said goodbye to my first company...and my first project..Requisition To Pay - ARIBA.

My last day was a Friday and I started work for RCG Information Technology immediately on the Monday after that! That's why it hasn't fully sunk in that I've already left the company..Whenever I learn of new testing techniques, my mind goes on auto-pilot in assessing the relevance of the technique to ARIBA...sheesh!

Anyways, new things always excite me and of course, moving to a new company after 3 years definitely falls under this category!!

New Office, New Officemates, New application...but still the same analysis and dedication required :)

What really excites me is the opportunity to learn new things, new applications, new techniques related to testing to further enhance my knowledge---earned solely through experience. After 3 years in the same project, it's not uncommon to wonder if I really know anything that's not related to my project. Are the things that i know applicable to the outside world? Am I good just because I've been here for so long and am already super familiar with the application? These things definitely crossed my mind and moving on to a new company will answer some of those questions...

I've been attending testing methodology knowledge transition sessions for my first 3 days and since I'm still feeling my way through the application, I'm focusing on the techniques right now.

Assurance # 1 - I understand the techniques, I've done them before through logic and personal analysis but never knew what they were called and that they had a formal 'QA standard' type of names. So that definitely made me happy.

The next step for me is to familiarize myself with the application so that both can go hand in hand. I long for the adrenaline rush whenever new requirements come in! It would be time to analyze...to assess...to gauge....

Meanwhile, i have my Management Accounting lessons on budgeting to keep me pre-occupied...i actually like it better than Financial Accounting coz it has a more practical application in life!

Starting Anew

This could well be a major turning point in my life...

- Looking for a job elsewhere meant that I wanted more and felt that i could do more
- Getting hired in a company other than Accenture meant that I am actually worth more than the JSE that i was hired around 3.6 years ago...it means that although Accenture taught me everything i know about IT..i was able to translate it and make it my own

Just a few days left until Feb 4 when I move to a new company. I have no reputation whatsoever except maybe as the experienced hire from Accenture. Then again, all new hires are experienced hires in RCG...

I hope to recarve my niche in testing...that's it for now, i don't want to pre-empt anything or expect too much on my first few months :)

Credit Card Lessons Re-learned

I already knew this before but somehow forgot after some time of not using my credit card.

I wanted to earn lotsa miles and forgot about how finance charge was computed.

I thought that paying before the cut off date is enough to cancel out my payments (fyi: i still have a stagnant sum that i haven't paid off) but i thought wrong.

I forgot about the average daily balance computation! How stupid of me!

Average Daily Balance. This is the most common calculation method. It credits your account from the day payment is received by the issuer. To figure the balance due, the issuer totals the beginning balance for each day in the billing period and subtracts any credits made to your account that day. While new purchases may or may not be added to the balance, depending on your plan, cash advances typically are included. The resulting daily balances are added for the billing cycle. The total is then divided by the number of days in the billing period to get the "average daily balance."

So i spent around 33k during my billing cycle and paid these off around 2 days before my cut off date...then i checked my online account and saw an unusually high finance charge despite the fact that i paid out what i bought...

Sigh..now i understand! I should pay on the day I buy... in other words, for me, I shouldn't buy if I don't have immediate cash on hand!

I am putting this under my lessons re-learned...NEVER AGAIN!!!

Last 30 Days in Accenture

I missed blogging!

Anyway, the cat's out of the bag! I have passed my resignation from Accenture effective Feb 2, 2007. So my last day is Feb 1. That's still 3 loooong weeks from now!

3 loooong weeks where I'd still have to review Test Conditons and Test Scripts of Chicago peeps! I pray that it'll be easier this time around hehehe

3 looooog weeks where I'd have to transition every single thing i know to other people. Hmmmm, I hope that's enough time!

I am looking forward to certain more exciting deadlines
  • Jan 14 - deadline of my articles for the GP2W Newsletter - a feature on the CIO Christmas Fair which my floor won and a travel feature of my Star Cruise experience
  • Jan 18 - deadline of my Leadership book review for Manila LeAP about The Wizard and the Warrior, leading with passion and power
  • Within January - Ops Teambuilding @ Red Box!
  • Jan 28 - Lunch out with Start Group for my last 'monthsary' with them in ACN. It's also my farewell treat for them. We'll be eating at AMICI
  • Feb 1 - last day of work! woohoo!
Ohhhh i so wish that PT deliverables would be bearable... i wish that our APM has transitioned what to do well to the PT Planners...i think this would be my biggest challenge before i go.. wish me luck!!

What's up? How's it going?

January 2025 became a positive turning point. I was still on edge when we went back to the Philippines for Chinese New Year. I didn't wa...
