My gosh! I joined Oprah Winfrey's book club and look what she recommends us to read this new year!

Hello Book Club Friends!

I'm so excited to announce our first Book Club Selection of 2004! It is a HUGE book—the favorite of writers, readers, and even celebrities around the world. And I assure you, it is a reader's read!

Brace yourselves—One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez is as steamy, dense and sensual as the jungle that surrounds the surreal town of Macondo!

Elaborating on real stories from his own family history, García Márquez breathes life into a wild, wonderful, mythical cast of characters in One Hundred Years of Solitude. You'll encounter strong men driven mad by their pursuit of knowledge…women who love life too much to die…butterflies that follow lovers…ghosts who refuse to leave…and so much more.

Magic permeates everyday life in Macondo—and is accepted without the blink of an eye. But One Hundred Years of Solitude is not a fairy tale. There is pain and suffering, angst and frustration, war and forgiveness, loss and heartache. The relationships among six generations of the Buendía family reflect the mythology of all our lives, and the drama of an entire culture.

There is so much to find in this novel! Reality and magic, men and women, politics and love, past, present and future. For Márquez, time—like the lines between reality and magic—is blurry. With each branch of the family tree, with every repetition of a name, it seems the Buendías are cursed to repeat their forbearers' mistakes.

I'm delighted to share this novel with you! It is a work I hope you will savor with every one of your senses. And we've only just begun!

Turn to page one: "Many years later, as he face the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendía was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice…"

Let the magic begin…and let it take you away!

— Oprah

This was our reading assignment back in first year with Mr. Pulan! It was a really good book although it'll make you shiver at the end...hehehehe. Maybe i should start reading it again when i have free time (meaning= never?) hehehe

Why do we have classes during Chinese New Year? Crazy GMA should've gone all the way in pleasing the CHinese and made tomorrow a non-working holiday! What in the world is a "special working holiday" for? Oh well...i can't cut my classes, too coz i have three tomorrow and a meeting for Polsci proj..argh.
***

I still don't feel the studying mood...i have a philo quiz tom about Metaphysics!? and i haven't studied! It's really a big deal coz i got D in the last quiz, just great!
Am i weird or what? I don't accept friend requests from people i don't know. Mainly from guys, but now, there's some girls and i'm considering if i should apply my rule to them as well. Hmmmm, hmmmm..think think think. Well, i think i'll accept since they seem harmless naman and just wanna be friends! hehe
***

Take my friendtest and see if you know me! www.bancroft.friendtest.com I have a feeling that only my very close friends would get a perfect score coz the questions are very detailed, hehehe. My CS classmate just got a 20! and for crying out loud, he thought that i listen to F4's music!!!! @*$#!

I remembered our discussion about Ateneans having stereotypes for different kinds of people and frankly, i was a bit surprised or simply jolted out of my dream world. Coz i always thought of the Ateneo as a melting pot of different kinds of people where everyone was more or less accepted--since everyone's Atenean--or at least people don't care who you are or where you come from. Well, i guess, you can't take stereotyping out of the Filipino culture, wherever you go. It's just that discrimination was a lot harsher back when i was in highschool (at least that's how i felt). Hmm you can read all about it in my Chinoy article this year, first issue. I'll look the link up but it's probably in ateneoceladon.com or something. In a nutshell, I was half-chinese ("mudblood") studing in a school with population of 90% pure-blooded chinese. Nuff said!

I'm considering getting a new phone! (If i still have money left, after the monstrous Christmas shopping Oli and I did! =) Well, i was thinking of getting a 3660 at first, since it has the most number of hi-tech features--and will you believe, exactly the same features as the 6600! A friend from Nokia told me the SRP for the 3660 is 24k-26k--quite expensive! While the 6600 is selling for 27k, (but was on sale last Nov for 25k argh!) Anyways, i'm gonna try to look for a cheap but orginal (y'know what i mean, hehe) 3660 or 6660--meaning less than 20k. I'm sure there's bound to be some around, i just have to wait and find the right person!
This is the 3660

I'm contemplating of putting up a website...wala lang, one of those things that suddenly come to me in the middle of the night! Just goes to show that i'm interested in those kinds of stuff at the back of my head! hehe.
It's 2:30 am right now and im taking advantage of the free hours that BLAST ISP has from 1am to 7am--for 15 days only from the 1st time one uses the card. hehehe
So what am i doing? Nothing! The sites i usually check out are Friendster (my homepage), Yahoo mail, Blogspot, Google, Hotmail, Chocolate Fantasy, Other Blogs and Whatever else pops into my mind!
Ho hum....Hmm.. Here's a list of what i got for Christmas!
1) A set of Watsons' body lotion, body wash soap and scrub
2) A set of Zen Zest body lotion and body wash
3) A set of Johnson's PH 5.5 body wash and scrub (one w/ moisturizers and the other without)
4) Chunky Swarovski bracelet (from bazaars? hehehe)
5) Bag--which i'm going to use for school! =)
6) White-Collared shirt--are they out of style already or classics?
7) Shirt which i think was not for me coz it's too big!
8) A snow dog stuffed toy! Really cute and cuddly!
9) A striped white ang blue button down blouse
10) Daily Bread!
11) Ang Pao of course! hehehe

There! That's about it! Not really exciting except for the dog, i really like it! I think it's around my 18th stuffed toy! Since i've got nothing better to do (well, sleep i guess) and have free internet access, i shall name all my "kids'!--by kind

I'm Going Nuts

Rant : I hate flirty girls!
Lemme change that. I just hate flirty girls who flirt with my boyfriend!
ohhhhh...grrrr! They are just soooo damn annoying!
Christmas/New Year resolution : Not to be too jealous, a little would do! hehehe
I'd scare the annoying flirters off but then i wanna be nice so i just smile even when my blood is boiling and i try so hard to look calm even when my eyes are shooting out flames...so they still get the message even if i'm smiling. But then, they'd think i'm bad and selfish and my boyfriend thinks, "Arent' you overreacting a bit?"
Ooooh, just don't mess with a girl whose hormones are "moody" or you just won't know what hit you...

Ok. so i'm crazy, ranting here and there. It's 1 am and i just finished baking a while ago...2 more days to go and I'm finally free! Argh, Christmas shopping to do! then after that articles to think about...oh welll... what a Christmas break!

It's nearing 2 am alreadya and i'm not sleepy again, caffeine overload--no other reason!
***

It's my Oli's competition for Great Bodies 2003 on Thursday, i'm soooo excited for him! It's already such a great honor to be part of the competition, wow! And not only the prestige is great but the hole bored on the pocket is way, way greater! Even amateur bodybuilding doesn't come cheap nowadays!
***

I gotta start dieting and controlling my weight and eating habits already! 'Tis the season to really pig out and get fat again! Argh, i should contemplate on all those sweat and energy wasted at the gym just a few months ago! And the thousands of money wasted on the gym membership if i dont' shape up! Not to mention, the P10 taho after every workout and the P20 parking fee for every 3 hours! Hehehehe
***

I really should sleep because my life nowadays revolves around sleeping, baking, netting, sleeping, baking, pigging out, netting, baking, sleeping...get it? Haha, when i wake up tomorrow, i'll be baking again!

Surprise!

I was walking by the dog house on my way to the computer lab and the girl coming towards me was eating this juicy chicken so i couldn't help but eye her food. Suddenly she approaches me and says, "You're Grace right?" I was wide eyed and managed to nod and mumble, 'Uy, yeah" Then she asked me about my cookies and if she could get a discount on bulk orders. So i said yes and she said she'd contact me na lang coz she has my number.

Wow, i wonder how she knew how i looked like! At least i know, my adverstising efforts are somewhat effective! hehehe

update! busy!

I haven't blogged in ages! Well, it's because i'm very busy--with work, business, gym, and school! Fortunately and unfortunately, i have a free cut now from Fr. Que's PH 104 so i'm able to blog but the bad thing is that i have a 4.5 hour break! My next class is at 3:00 pm and i didn't have class before this! argh, i should've just stayed home and slept some more or baked some more! Oh well, i'm here anyway and my computer monitor's busted so i gotta do my surfing and typing here at school.

Hmm, to have continuity with my previous post...
1) I got the 50% financial aid i was asking for, what a surprise! Their hearts must've melted from my family's letter of need hehehe.
2) I was surprisingly able to organize and compute the costing for my bazaar and baked goodies! The Xavier Bazaar was good, i sold all my goodies and people have been calling up to order wholesale, yey! =)
3) Upcoming bazaar this weekend at The Loft, Rockwell! I'm baking like crazy! There are sooo many orders, it's good my mom helps me out with the packaging and purchasing of ingredients or i wouldn't get a wink of sleep!

Speaking of time, i was feeling so bad last tuesday because i had time to bake and to sleep but no time to do my first feature writing paper, theo reflection paper, and prepare for my polsci recitation! I wanted to go home the moment i found out that i we had a graded recitation that i forgot! Luckily, i wasn't called and i was able to finish my travel article (but it wasn't nice, bitin daw sabi ni Cliff)and my theo reflection and just cut one class.

This weekend is another and more hectic one so i'm gonna find a way to finish all my school stuff before tuesday comes around again! Ooooh, busy, busy!

I'm gonna go eat lunch now and get back in front of the computer in a while hehehe.

Before i go, i just want to comment that Studio 23 should start showing the new season of Smallville! Wala lang hehehe.

I WANT CHANGE!!!!

I wanna revamp my blog! I'm having a hard time reading my posts coz the font is so small, or at least it is with my browser settings! I'm tired of the pink and violet colors too! Maybe i'll try mellower colors like baby blue and maybe other colors more soothing to the eyes.

There was supposed to be 2 previous posts to this one but my internet connection kept failing me so all i wrote was lost in cyberspace! boohoo!

Well, what i wrote was kinda boring anyway--stuff about registering for the next elections and something else i forgot!

I have so many things on my head but i don't know what to write! Does that make sense?

Well, just an update on my forever busy life: just came home from the cemetery and i was reading this Fil novel most of the time: Mga Bathalang Putik by Liwayway Arceo. Hey, it's actually good! I'm hooked to the story even though i don't understand 20% of the adjectives and verbs used but i manage naman through context clues--sana nga tama hehe.

There. I'm off to preparing for my bazaar.....I'm going to school on Monday na for my grades! Agh!

Anybody pray for me! I'm applying for financial aid from the schoola and i hope the teachers gave me good grades to impress fr. que or whoever's choosing....

Ciao!

What's up? How's it going?

January 2025 became a positive turning point. I was still on edge when we went back to the Philippines for Chinese New Year. I didn't wa...
